Best of British
Friday 26th October was a great day between all 5 holiday parks at West Dorset Leisure Holidays. We had a fundraising day for Breast Cancer Awareness, with the “wear it pink” theme. Between all the parks we managed to raise a spectacular £185.00 with staff and customers making very generous donations.
Tonight we are hosting a Halloween party at Highlands End restaurant, we’re going to have a disco, party games and a spooky food menu! We still have customers staying at our holiday parks and we are looking forward to some imaginative costumes.
Monday 22nd October James, Vanessa and I went to the Best of British conference in Oxford. Best of British is an association that we have been involved with for over 20 years, it’s for all UK holiday parks and touring caravan sites that are family run and of a 5 star rating. We discussed marketing and business development for 2013 and took a field trip to Lincoln Farm Park. It’s always a good time to meet up with the other members and share ideas for the future.
Sarah and James attended the Bridport and District Tourism Association committee meeting on Monday 29th October. They have both volunteered to undertake the role of social secretary and help organise the Christmas dinner for all members within the association. James has also become very involved with the marketing side of the BDTA. The association is trying to get businesses around the Bridport area to become members and together promote tourism. This in turn is a great way for businesses to network and to address ways of improving visitor numbers.
The holiday season for camping and touring is coming to an end this weekend, we will be saying goodbye to our remainder of campers and tourers and closing the parks to begin our winter work. Please do remember that the leisure club, bar, restaurant and the luxury apartments are open and available all year round.
Charity fundraising and new prices for 2013
On Friday the 19th October we were very keen to sponsor the Stand up to Cancer campaign, James and Hana went along to our Bridport Cancer Research shop to make the donation we had raised within our holiday parks.
This Friday 26th October we will be joining in the “Wear it Pink” for breast cancer awareness. We have tried to come up with some fun ideas in how to raise money within the holiday parks and are looking forward to seeing the staff all dressed in pink. There are donation boxes being displayed in the parks receptions and if any one did want to join in the fun? Please speak to the holiday parks receptionists. I will take some pictures and display them on the West Dorset Leisure Holidays facebook page.
We have now published our 2013 prices and these are available from the holiday parks receptions or on our website and we have special discounts available on the holiday apartments. We are pleased to have been receiving new memberships for our 2013 Highlands End Leisure Club and this November it will be 12 months since we had our solar panels fitted to the swimming pool hall. The solar panels are only a small part in the efforts we are making, to push forward in the going green policy across our West Dorset Leisure Holiday Parks.
Fun and Fame at Highlands End Holiday Park
The last two weekends we have hosted social evenings at Highlands bar and restaurant, for our caravan owner’s at all five holiday parks. Both events i hear were a great success with the owners mixing with the parks staff, enjoying the buffet and plenty of dancing. I am looking forward to next years, as i was unable to attend this year due to a study tour in France.
We currently have a film crew stationed at our Highlands End Holiday Park which is very exciting. Kudos Productions have chosen to use our neighbouring picturesque village of Eype, for an eight part drama which will be screened in 2013 called “Broadchurch”. The series is starring David Tennant, Olivia Coleman, Andrew Buchan, Jodie Whittaker and Vicky McClure. It sounds a very intriguing script about a boy murdered in a quiet village and people in the community coming under suspicion, with David Tennant leading the investigation.
This drama will become another in the list of programmes that have been filmed along our Jurassic Coast, including “Harbour Lights”, “The River Cottage”, “The boat that rocked” and “Gulliver’s travels”. It’s always a proud time for us locals to see our beautiful area in the headlines.
